Fred Crum

The Northern California Experience

When I draw or paint, it is realized in abstract form; I seek visual clues that let me see how
things are related and connected. Through color and design I merge conscious and
unconscious ideas and harmonize them. Nature is a conscious contributor to my painting and
drawing with its innate, subconscious beauty.

Though I am self-didactic, my parents influenced my artistic growth. My mother was a painter
and art teacher and my father was a landscape architect. Growing up in this environment has
had lifelong influence and benefits. Many years of classes in mechanical drawing and drafting
began my artistic aspirations which has lead to the works you see on this website. Here you
will see photographs of selected works covering forty years. Most are works on paper.
The video section shows examples of my recent work of Planetary Pets.
